International Association of Professionals in Sugar and Integrated Technologies

About IAPSIT

Background

The world sugar market has become increasingly complex and competitive with the imposition of WTO regulations and formation of several economic blocks. These have affected sugar production, consumption and trade with inevitable consequences for the sugar industry in developing countries which are already plagued with low efficiency and a high cost of production. In order to build a strong and sustainable sugar industry in developing countries which contributes over 70% of global sugar, the production system needs to be re-engineered to obtain maximum efficiency. It was therefore thought that an association like IAPSIT could play a catalytic role in providing stability and quality through mutual exchange of scientific knowledge and technological support to individual country’s sugar & integrated industries. This will help to sustain the sugar industry and create wealth and prosperity in developing countries, local communities and the people concerned. The IAPSIT is a non-profit scientific association of sugar crop scientists, technologists, managers, institutions and companies concerned with the holistic improvement of the sugar industry and integrated industries in the developing countries. The association organizes international conference every three years and also conducts seminars, workshops, training programs suiting to the requirements of industry of the host country. IAPSIT has organized 6 international conferences in China (3), Egypt(1) and India (1), Thailand (1) and many workshops and training across the globe.
